Wimbledon 2022 reaches its middle Saturday with the third round of matches taking place at the All England Club. It may still be early days, but tennis legend Mats Wilander has made huge predictions for next Sunday’s tournament final on Center Court and picked the winner of the elusive trophy.
Going into the tournament, Wimbledon had three favorites. With Rafael Nadal, who is back at the All England Club for the first time in three years and chasing a first career calendar slam, and Novak Djokovic, who has won the title three times in a row, the experts put Matteo Berrettini as the favourite.
But while the Italian withdrew from the tournament after testing positive for Covid-19, Djokovic and Nadal advanced. The Serb reached the last 16 by dropping a set once in his three matches so far. Nadal, on the other hand, will play his third round match on Saturday after dropping a set in each of his first two ties.

Despite both greats having a long way to go, Eurosport tennis expert Vilander has backed Nadal and Djokovic to reach the final, admitting that the center court surface will favor the Spaniard more.
“How you look and how you feel after two games is completely irrelevant because they are only going to play in the final,” he said. “They’re both going to get four more games to get there.
“The Wimbledon court here is completely different if it’s in the final. It’s dry, it’s worn out. It’s going to play like a clay court, so if he’s playing today or Friday the first week. Yeah so far Djokovic is looking a little bit better.
“But the longer the tournament goes, the surface starts to favor Rafa Nadal.
“It doesn’t mean I think Nadal will beat Djokovic in the final but like I said before he wins matches and peaks at the right time. So far he hasn’t peaked.”
