West Bengal: Mamata Banerjee set to carry out reshuffle of state Cabinet

The cabinet reshuffle, the first since the Transitional Military Council returned to power for a third consecutive term last year, is likely to be one of the largest since the party came to power in the state in 2011, according to news agency PTI.

Banerjee announced a cabinet reshuffle on Monday after an overhaul of her party. She said that four to five new faces will be introduced into the new government, while a similar number of members of the current government will be used for party work. It is also possible to amend some ministerial portfolios between the current ministers.

The potential rejig is seen as an attempt to change the image by the party that has been the subject of the job scam investigation. Chatterjee, who was the default number two in both the TMC and the government, has been stripped of all ministerial responsibilities and suspended from the party after his arrest by the ED last week and the recovery of around Rs 50 crore from the apartments of his partner Arpita Mukherjee.

Chatterjee held five key ministries, including Industry, Commerce, Corporate and Parliamentary Affairs.
