US strike in Syria targets ‘senior’ militant

The United States carried out a raid in Syria’s Idlib province on Monday, targeting a prominent leader of an armed group allied with al-Qaeda, the US military said.

The US military statement said that the strikes targeted Abu Hamza al-Yamani, a “prominent leader” in Hurras al-Din, which is allied with al-Qaeda, while he was traveling alone on a motorbike.

She added that the initial review did not indicate any civilian casualties.

The Syrian Civil Defense, a humanitarian organization, said in a tweet on Twitter that a man was killed shortly before midnight after his motorcycle was targeted by two missiles, adding that it had transferred the body to the Forensic Medicine Department in Idlib city.
