Rampur MLA Azam Khan, who was released from prison on Friday after a 27-month hiatus, will now arrive in Lucknow for the budget session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, starting from May 23 until May 31. Sources in the Samajwadi Party indicated that during the session they will raise the issue of targeting their deputy, Azam Khan, by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state assembly and outside as well.
On his arrival in the state assembly, Azam Khan will first have to meet with the Speaker of the House of Representatives to take the oath as the court did not allow him to take the oath while in Sitapur prison in March. Only after taking an oath, he can participate in the budget session. The Yogi government will present the first budget for its second term on May 26.
The Samajwadi Party MLA was released from the Rampur (Saddar) assembly seat after the Supreme Court granted it provisional bail in Case No. 89 registered against it.
While his family was delighted to have him back, they were joined by Pragatishil Samajwadi Lohya party chief Shivpal Yadav, who had been maintaining a constant ‘support’ for Khan who was said to have been abandoned by his party leadership, especially Shivpal’s nephew Akhilesh Yadav.
Shivbal’s son and Khan Abdullah Azam, who tweeted in anticipation of his release, arrived at Sitapur prison to receive the commander. However, it has been learned that Akhilesh Yadav or any other prominent leader of the Socialist Party is missing on the occasion. However, some local leaders of the Samajwadi Party arrived at the prison to welcome him.
Meanwhile, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav called a key meeting of all MLCs and MLAs in Lucknow on Saturday. At this meeting, Akhilesh will develop a strategy to impeach the Yogi government in the House of Representatives during the budget session. It will be interesting to see if Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam, both SP MLA, will join this meeting. Only then will the picture be clear about the future policy of Azam Khan. Earlier on Friday while speaking to the media in Rampur, Azam Khan said his people are the main reason behind his misery.
