Police said two people, including a woman, have been taken into custody in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh state for allegedly including them for making insulting remarks against the Prophet Muhammad.
Police added that another person belonging to the minority has been taken into custody for allegedly making remarks against the BJP leader on social media.
“We have booked three people and will take action against everyone who shares this objectionable content, regardless of religion or caste,” said Rohit Singh Sagwan, chief police officer in Bareilly.
As a precaution, more police were deployed near each place of worship and local leaders were advised to spread a message of peace to maintain communal harmony.
One of the accused who was booked by the police at Prem Nagar Police Station is Kuldeep Kumar, a history writer who has been arrested by the police several times. He posted an objectionable post on social media.
The second FIR was to share a similar type of posting on social media against the Prophet Muhammad under Section 295A (a deliberate or malicious act intended to stir up religious sentiments of any class) while the third FIR was against Rehan Khan, who shared inflammatory content against Nupur Sharma.
