Truck overturns on UP highway, lands on SUV; 5 including 2 kids die, 3 critical

Five people, including two children, died on Tuesday night when a dump truck loaded with fly ash overturned and landed on a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on the Lucknow-Prayagaraj highway in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh late on Tuesday night.

Police said that the condition of the other three admitted to the Rae Bareilly District Hospital is critical. The accident took place in Badhokhar police station.

Five passengers in the SUV, Rakesh Agarwal (45), his wife Sonam Agarwal (38), her friend Ruchika Agarwal (35) and their two children Ryans (6) and Raisa (9), died, police said.

Ruchika’s husband Rachit Agarwal (42) and Rakesh’s two children Aditya (11) and Tanishi (9) have been admitted to the hospital and their condition is said to be critical.

The families of Rakesh and Rachit Aggarwal were returning home in an SUV after having dinner at a roadside eating joint around 11.30 pm on Thursday.

“As a result of the accident, the bodies of the victims had to be pulled out from the debris with the help of JCB,” said a police official.

The truck has been impounded and a case of causing death due to negligence has been registered, police said.
