The 35-year-old world number one, who has spent less than two hours on the court, plays 15th seed Diego Schwartzman of Argentina.

“It is not possible to play perfectly, but to strive to play close to perfection,” Djokovic said in an interview on the court.

“I want to play my signature game, my aggressive game. It wasn’t always possible but today it was very good.”

Biden ranked 195th in the world eight months after resigning and returning to play in March was no match for Djokovic’s strength and impeccable service games.

The Serbian wasted three break points at 2-1 in the first set, but quickly got another chance to overcome it in more than 30 minutes.

He had two more breaks in the second set to resolve it as quickly in the first with Bedene failing to get a single break opportunity throughout the match, earning only five points on Djokovic’s serve in the first two sets.

The third set came in a similar fashion as Djokovic broke early and Biden, who made twice as many unforced errors as his opponent, failed to respond before the Serb wrapped up the match when the Slovenian netted a forehand after an hour and 44 minutes. .
