Three days on, Karnal man held for Ambala carjacking

Three days after at least four strangers robbed a Mahindra XUV 500 owned by a Shimla resident on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway, police arrested a suspect from Haridwar on Monday.

The accused, Vikas Mann of Bala village in Karnal, claimed to be a law graduate from a private university in Mohali and practiced in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He was produced before the court and remanded to police custody for one day.

Another vehicle was parked on the highway near Kakru village as car owner Arun Kumar was on his way to Chandigarh on Thursday night. Four men showed up with a weapon and robbed the car.

Inspector Gaurav of Baldev Nagar Police Station said the car was recovered from Haridwar.

Asked about his lawyer’s credentials, the inspector said, “The rights will be reviewed at the time of their arrest and the remaining accused will be arrested soon.”
