SP’s Lal Bihari Yadav becomes Leader of Opposition in Vidhan Parishad

Lal Bihari Yadav has been appointed as the SP’s Sanjay Lathar, who expired on Thursday as a Municipal Council member (MLC).

Samajwadi Party (SP) Lal Bihari Yadav has been identified as the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the Vidhan Sabha, on Friday.

He replaces Sanjay Lathar of the SP, which ended on Thursday as a Vidhan Sabha member (MLC). Lathar was appointed as Leader of the Opposition just days after the death of senior SP leader Ahmed Hassan.

Yadav, a resident of Ajangarh, has been the MLC representing Varanasi Teachers’ field since 2020. His tenure is set to end in 2026.

    Bank robbery in Araria near SP residence

    Armed robbers looted 37 lakh worth of gold and Rs 15 lakh from the Bank of India (BoI) branch of Araria district in Bihar on Friday. The act was committed in just 10 to 12 minutes, police said. The digital video recorder (DVR) of the CCTV cameras installed in the bank before the escape was taken.

    Police seek warrants for arrest of tainted MU VC, calls to expel them

    The Bihar Police Special Vigilance Court on Friday filed an application for a special court in Patna seeking a non-bailable warrant against Rajendra Prasad, the vice-chancellor of Magadha University, who was on medical leave after an investigation agency raided Prasad’s office and residence in Gorakhpur. Heavy cash, including foreign currency, was recovered in November last year.

    Former MLA Ramashish Rai appointed UP RLD president

    Ramaishish Rai has been appointed as the president of the Uttar Pradesh unit of the National Lok Sabha two months after party chief Jayant Chaudhary disbanded all the front organizations after the UP assembly election results were announced. Roy has been replaced by Masood Ahmed, who left the RLD with serious allegations against Jayant Chaudhary and his leadership.

    Bihar death toll rises to 24 in Bihar

    According to locals and family members of the deceased, the death toll in the latest suspected Hooch disaster in “dry” Bihar has risen to 24 after the deaths of five more people in Gaya on Thursday. The latest victims have been identified as Nanhak Chaudhary of Chaudhary Bigha, Ashok Paswan of Khiriawan, Rambhaju Rikiasan of Noniyadh and Sanju Ram of Gunjar Bigaha of Aurangabad and Kailash Yadav, Pathan of Gaya.
