Southwest monsoon expected to reach Kerala early next week

As the rains continued in Assam and parts of the Northeast, more than 6 people were displaced across 27 districts of the state. And the death toll rose, Wednesday, to 9, with a person drowning in flood waters in Darang district. A bulletin from the Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said dams have been breached, roads and bridges destroyed, and school buildings destroyed in various parts of the state. Survivors is the worst affected area, with 2.88 thousand people affected. Eight-year-old Mihpreet Singh, a resident of Bati Daulat village in Longwal district of Sangrour district, passed away on Monday afternoon. Family members said that the child, who was a fourth-grade student of Government Primary School in Patti Dolat, fell ill due to the severe heat wave and could not be rescued despite being taken to different hospitals. Pre-monsoon rains continued to hit Kerala on Thursday as the Meteorological Department forecast heavy to very heavy rain on Thursday due to cyclonic circulation over Tamil Nadu. An alert was also issued in 12 of Kerala’s 14 districts.
