A crowd favorite at Cannes since its inception, All That Breathes by Shaunak Sen won the 2022 L’Oeil d’Or (Golden Eye) for Best Documentary at the 75th Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, making it India’s second consecutive film. . All This Breath is about two Delhi brothers, Nadim and Saud, who, amidst a crumbling city atmosphere and the deteriorating social fabric, dedicate their lives to saving the migratory black kites that are at the mercy of humankind’s unthinkable ways. “All Those Breaths” was competing with Chilean documentary director Patricio Guzman’s “MyImaginary Country” by Ethan Coen’s “Jerry Lee Lewis: A Problem with the Mind” and “The Natural History of Destruction” by Sergei Loznitsa, among other films. The jury of L’Oeil d’Or awarded a special posthumous award to Mantas Kvedaravicius for his film Mariupolis 2. The Lithuanian director was among the thousands of civilians killed in Ukraine since the Russian invasion.

The jury described “Mariopolis 2” as a film that is impossible to compare with any other film in the competition. It is also mentioned that the prize includes a cash prize of 5,000 euros (approximately 4.16 thousand rupees).
