Ahead of the monsoon season, Chennai Metro Limited (CMRL) plans to install flood-proof doors at the entry and exit points of seven subway stations along both lanes, to prevent water from entering the stations, and to ensure that services continue without any disruption.
The work is scheduled to be completed before October.
According to CMRL officials, metro services took a hit last year when the city was waterlogged after heavy rains. Hence, as a precaution, they are planning to install flood-proof doors at seven underground metro stations.
“Major works have already been completed on Sidapet, Governmental, AG-DMS and the eastern entrance of Anna Nagar metro stations. We will start work on Thousand Lights, Tondiarpet, Sir Theagaraya College and the other entrance of Anna Nagar metro station soon,” said an official.
