Rocketry: Actor R Madhavan’s directorial debut Nambi Effect collects. ₹65 lakhs at the domestic box office on its first day of release. According to a new report, the film had a better opening in theaters than other films like Vikram and Valimai. Madhavan is seen in the lead role in Rocketry. Rocketry chronicles Nambi Narayanan’s early days as a graduate student at Princeton University, before exploring his work as a scientist and the espionage charges against him. The film was shot simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil and English. It has also been dubbed into Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
A Box Office India report said that the film mentioned that the Rocketry: Nambi effect was ‘probably high’ for Tamil Nadu but the Chennai collections ‘do not suggest that it did much there either’. The report said that the Hindi version might have collected more unless it did well outside Chennai, Tamil Nadu. R Madhavan’s film ‘has a better opening than big Tamil films like Valimai, Beast and Vikram but they were all dubbed and had pretty awful openings so that’s not saying much,’ added the report.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala also tweeted about the film. “@ActorMadhavan’s #Rocketry opened with great reviews and WOM..multiplex ad bookings good this weekend…” he tweeted, “#Yaanai and #Rocketry both debuted in top 10 in Malaysia yesterday… Have a great weekend. Next.. .”
Apart from Madhavan, actors Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya are also part of the film in cameos. The film also stars Phyllis Logan, Vincent Riota and Ron Donachie. Madhavan has essayed the role of Nambi Narayanan in the film. The film was shot in India, France, Canada, Georgia and Serbia.
