Road rage: 19-year-old shot in head in Amritsar village, critically injured

A 19-year-old youth was seriously injured in a roadside incident near the village of Wadala Kalan in Amritsar when two strangers on a bike shot him in the head.

The incident took place around 11 pm on Sunday night when Rishivant Singh, a resident of Dhyanpur village of Baba Bakala subdivision, was returning from a wedding ceremony with his two friends. His friends took him to a private hospital in Amritsar, where his condition is critical, police said.

Muktiyar Singh, Beas Station House Officer (SHO), said that a case has been registered under Section 307 (attempted murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25-54-59 of the Arms Act. “Our teams are working to identify and arrest the accused,” he said.

The victim’s father, Harpal Singh, who is serving as a soldier in the Border Security Force (BSF) 182 Battalion in Ferozepur Sector, was returning home after completing a party, when his son’s car was hit by a bike.

“Instead of stopping the car, Rishivant drove off. The bikers rushed past my son. The car jammed on the way after a tire puncture. The accused got there and started beating my son. When two of his friends tried to intervene, the accused took out a pistol and shot my son in the head. He added that the accused fled in the air after the incident.

Harpal, who demanded the arrest of the accused, urged the government to take adequate measures to stop the use of firearms by perpetrators. The victim had to go abroad for higher studies in the following days.
