With a steady decrease in the number of passengers, Pune Metro has reduced the pace of its services in two short phases.
“The metro train ridership rate has been declining since its launch. Initially there was a lot of excitement that made the citizens take the joy ride. However, it has now decreased but is expected to rise again after extending the routes,” said Hemant Sunawan, Relations Officer Public in Pune Metro.
“Pune Metro has reduced the number of trains on PCMC Road to Phugewadi Road while extending the gap between two trains to one hour. It will be revised according to the situation in the future,” he said.
The maximum number of passengers was recorded in the opening month of the metro, from 6 to 31 March, when 5.19 lakh used the service, which generated a revenue of Rs 76 lakh.
