SAD Kisan Wing President Sikander Singh Maluka said that the long delay in the release of sugarcane farmers is creating a crisis in the agricultural sector.
Shiromani Akali Dal demands Saturday to release Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ₹ 331 crore for sugarcane growers from the state’s co-operative sugar factories.
SAD Kisan Wing President Sikander Singh Maluka said in a statement here, the long delay in the release of the sugarcane farmers’ dues creates a crisis in the agricultural sector.
“Farmers are already in debt and if they don’t release the money immediately, the farmers will have to get into further debt. Attempts to divert farmers to sugarcane by diverting them from the wheat-paddy cycle are in vain, ”the SAD leader said.
Malukka said private sugar factories that failed to pay the sugarcane cultivators’ dues should also be taken down.
Private mills are pending, according to estimates ₹ 343 crores, urging the government to give clear direction to cooperative and private sugar mills to clear the pending dues.
