Pimpri Chinchwad Police have arrested two people for allegedly cheating people by impersonating Goods and Services Tax (GST) officers. The accused have been identified as Manojkumar Chabinat and Umprakash Pandey from Mukarji Nagar in Delhi.
Businessman Shadan Khan, 27, filed the first media report (FIR) into the case at Chikhali Police Station on Friday.
Police said the couple falsely claimed to be GST officers from Delhi. They also purchased fake ID cards with forged signatures. Investigators said the duo approached Khan and demanded money from him not to file a GST violation case against him.
After receiving information about the incident, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police have arrested the accused under Sections 420, 464, 465, 468, 471, 171, 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigations are underway to find out how they purchased the fake ID cards and other documents and whether they deceived more people by pretending to be GST officers.
