Principal ‘misusing govt grants’: DEO orders probe after villagers lock school

Mehsana Education Official (DEO) has ordered an investigation after residents of Sundia village in Vadnagar Taluka district closed Anupam Government Primary School on Monday, alleging wrongly the government grants given by the principal. A new academic session began in schools across the state on Monday.

“The villagers had issues with School Principal Rajendra Chaudhary due to them closing the school… We told them that this was not true and that they should have reported it to us. After we set up an investigation into the allegations, they allowed the school to resume,” DEO Mehsana Gaurang Vyas told The Indian Express .

Officials claimed that government grants could only be used after approval by school management committees that also include parents as members, while parents claimed that the principal misused government funds by using fake invoices. They also claimed that the school had poor toilet facilities and drinking water.
Officials said the investigation was reportedly expected within a day or two.
