Pfizer Covid shot works, safe for youngest kids: US health body | World News

US Food and Drug Administration staff released a report earlier this week in front of the FDA Advisor’s main meeting on Fizer Inc. for children 4 and under with no new safety concerns. Said that Covid’s shot was effective.

Advisors will meet for two days from Tuesday to discuss mRNA vaccines in children. Pfizer’s application for clearance for young children aged 6 months to 4 years will be discussed Wednesday, in conjunction with the Moderna app to clear its shot for children aged 6 months to 5 years.

According to a staff report posted Sunday on the FDA website, Pfizer Inc.-BioTech SE vaccine “supports the effectiveness of available data” in children aged 6 months to 4 years.

The report found that fewer adverse reactions were observed in younger children’s trials compared to those of older adults. The report says that may be due to lower mRNA doses used in younger children.

The available data “does not indicate any new safety concerns,” the FDA report said of Pfizer Shot in younger children.

An FDA staff report for the Moderna vaccine in children aged 6 months to 17 years was posted on Friday and said it was effective in these age groups without significant unexpected side effects.

The FDA’s Vaccines and Related Organic Products Advisory Committee meets Wednesday to evaluate vaccine data on both young children and to hear presentations from companies and health officials. The group, made up of outside scientific experts, recommends whether the shots should be authorized.

The first day of Tuesday’s meeting focuses on the Moderna shot of children aged 6 to 17 years. Currently only the Moderna Shot is cleared for adults 18 and older in the US, but the Pfizer Shot is already authorized and older for children as young as 5 years old.

The official vaccine for minors is a welcome news for many parents and caregivers who are eager to protect their children from the virus. Many pandemic measures, such as concealment and social gaps, have been eliminated, and the lack of vaccines has crippled children under the age of 5.

At the height of the Omicron wave, many preschool age patients were hospitalized for dangerous covidin infection. Other young children with cancer have delayed life-saving chemotherapy as a result of Covidin, which reduces their chances of recovery.

The Biden administration announced earlier this month that Covid vaccines for young children are expected to be released early June 21. The government has a supply of 10 million doses of vaccines from both Pfizer and Moderna, which are ready to go as soon as the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention appear green.
