Pat Cummins skips Zimbabwe, New Zealand ODI series

On Monday, Test captain Pat Cummins was rested for Australia’s one-day match against Zimbabwe and New Zealand in August and September, Cricket Australia said on Monday.

The CA said in a statement that the speed bowler Cummins “will undergo a period of rehabilitation and physical preparation for next summer” and will miss the six games in North Queensland.

Batsman Travis Head will skip the series as well as his partner is expecting their first child, but spinner Adam Zampa, multi-level Ashton Agar and man of peace Sean Abbott are all back on the team.

Abbott, who broke his finger into the net in the final round of Sri Lanka, will form a speed unit with Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Stark.

Captain Aaron Finch will lead an equally strong fighting squad that also includes the talents of David Warner, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuchagny and Glenn Maxwell.

Australia play three ODI matches against Zimbabwe in Townsville from August 28 before taking on the best of the Black Caps on three daytime nights in Cairns from September 6.

Team: Aaron Finch, Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Curry, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuchan, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Mitchell Stark, Marcus Stoines, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
