Rishabh Pant is an entertainer both on and off the field. He does not have two sides. He lives life with a smile and carries the same on the field. After praising the left-hander of Indian cricket for his superb counter-attacking century on Day 1 of the fifth Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, Pant took time to reply to most of them. He thanked the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan but reserved a good reply for Virender Sehwag.
Responding to Sehwag’s “world’s greatest entertainer” statement shared by the former India opener with a biographical meme of MS Dhoni, Pant said Sehwag was “one of the greatest”.
“@virendrasehwag bhaiya .. love it. 😂😂 u are the greatest and one of the best,” Pant tweeted.
Pant scored the fastest century by an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman in Tests and scored 146 runs off 111 balls. He put India out of trouble after a 222-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (83*) reduced India to 98 for 5.
The duo shared a record partnership of 222 off 239 balls for the sixth wicket, the highest partnership by an Indian team in England. This is India’s joint fourth highest partnership in Test cricket.
Talking about his record 222-run partnership with Jadeja at the post-match press conference, Pant said, “The discussion between Jadeja and me was that we want a partnership. I was talking to Jadeja about building a partnership and let’s try for a partnership.”
“I never consider it a favorite opponent. I don’t think much about the opposition. I mostly focus on playing my game. I try to get out when the bowler pitches the ball consistently at one spot. Play unorthodox shots to unsettle the bowlers,” he said.
