Panchkula gears up for Khelo India Youth Games

Between June 4 and 13, Panchkula will be at the Sports Center stage, the city will host the 4th Khelo India Youth Games with more than 8,000 U-18 athletes participating.

Preparations are heavy across Haryana, with the Kovid epidemic scheduled to be played in five cities including Ambala, Shahabad, Delhi, Chandigarh and Panchkula.

Panchkula hosts the highest number of events in various locations. Football, badminton, volleyball, basketball, athletics, wrestling and boxing competitions will be held at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex, with judo and tennis being held at Red Bishop’s Hall and Gymkhana Club in Sector 6, respectively.

Meanwhile, the cricket stadium hosts field games like Kho-Kho, Gatka, Tang-ta, Yogasan, Mallakhamb and Kalaripayattu. Cycling Road will be an event.

The gates of the University of Punjab in Chandigarh are also open for archery competitions and league matches for football.

Other sports such as swimming and gymnastics are scheduled to be held in Ambala, but the shooting will take place in New Delhi’s Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range. Shahabad also known as Hockey Nursery hosts a hockey competition.

Games organizers have developed a mobile app to help athletes update time, schedules and other information, including room, meals, and event exposure.

Speaking about the Games, a spokesman said, “The Government of Haryana is very proactive in its efforts to take the name of Khelo India to the masses. These games are meant to provide better facilities to emerging athletes in India.

Each state’s competition manager will arrive in Panchkula in the next two days to determine the exact schedule of individual and team sports. All covid-related rules are followed in place.

The opening and closing ceremony will be invitation-based, but the venue of the contests will be free and open to the audience.

Pankhuri Gupta, senior adviser to Haryana’s sports and youth affairs, said: Operations, promotions, and all that, but we’re working with the timeline. Apart from Panchkula, other cities are also setting up their stadiums for the event.
