Mumbai: Police summon Nupur Sharma over remarks against Prophet Mohammad

Mumbai Police have issued a notice to the arrested BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma asking her to appear before them on June 25 and register a statement regarding her objectionable remarks against the Prophet Muhammad.

The FIR against Sharma was registered by Bidoni Police for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by making derogatory remarks to the Prophet. The notice was issued under Section 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code requiring her to appear before the investigating officer at 11 am on the said date.

The police had also requested a video of the debate from the relevant news channel, in which it made a controversy remark and A chorus of diplomatic outrage called out from the Gulf states.

While Qatar, Kuwait and Iran summoned India’s ambassadors to their countries, calls have emerged on social media across many countries to boycott Indian products. Protests erupted – a few of which turned violent In several states across India, protesters demanded Sharma’s arrest.

Earlier, Mumbra Police also issued a notice against her asking her to appear before them on June 22. An FIR report has also been filed against her in the same case.

The BJP suspended Sharma and expelled another leader, Naveen Jindal, who tweeted similar comments.
