Mumbai: BMC issues tender to develop ‘democracy square’ near Azad Maidan junction

BMC on Friday issued a tender worth Rs 5 crore for the development of ‘Democracy Square’ on the Hauttma Chowk lines at Muroor Island near Azad Maidan Junction.

Spread over 1,000 square metres, Democracy Square will include a kinetic installation, exhibition gallery, seating area, heritage lights and a selfie spot.

Officials said the sculpture and platform would represent the four pillars of democracy – equality, justice, freedom and fraternity. It is proposed to place a democrat statue on a granite pedestal.

As per the design, the title ‘Janhit Janmat’ in Devnagri will be engraved on the front of the base. Around the body of the pedestal, the phrase will be engraved in 22 regional languages.
