According to the Khargone police, the accused, including the woman’s husband and brothers, also beat up the woman’s uncle for allowing the woman and her two children to stay in his house. Police registered an FIR and arrested five people on Wednesday for indecent assault, rioting and voluntarily causing hurt to a woman.

The police took action after the video of the incident went viral on social media.

Khargone Superintendent of Police Dharamveer Yadav said, “The woman was married to a man from Barwani district. Although the couple had two children, the woman’s husband used to beat her in a drunken state. She left home five months ago and came to her brother’s house in a village in Khargone district. The woman’s brother refused to allow her into their home so she lived with her uncle, her father’s younger brother.

On July 2, the woman’s husband came to Khargone village after learning that the woman was living in his uncle’s house and beat up her uncle. The uncle was beaten up by the woman’s brothers. After that, they beat the woman and forced her to carry her husband on her shoulders and walk around the village, SP said.

A video of the incident was shot by the villagers. The woman was then forced to leave her uncle’s village to live with her husband, police said.

On the complaint of the uncle, the police have registered a case and he has been admitted to the district hospital, where his condition is stable. The SP said that five people, including the woman’s husband and brother, have been arrested.

On Sunday, a tribal woman was assaulted in Dewas and forced to take her husband to stay at her friend’s house. Police have arrested 11 accused in connection with the case.
