Mohamed Salah, Sam Kerr win PFA Player of the Year Awards

Today, Thursday, Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah was named the best player in the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) for the second time. Chelsea’s Sam Kerr won the women’s award. Earlier in April, the duo also won the Footballer of the Year award by the English Football Writers Association.

The Egyptian player also won the award in the 2017-18 season, after Liverpool won the League Cup and the FA Cup, while also reaching the Champions League final where they lost to Real Madrid.

Salah scored 31 goals in all competitions for Liverpool and helped them win the League Cup and the FA Cup.

“It’s really good to win, especially because it was voted for by the players. It shows you that you worked really hard and you get what you worked for,” Salah said.

“I have my room with the trophies in a closet and made sure there was another space for another one. I always keep the space and just try to imagine the trophies will come.”

On the other hand, Kerr scored the highest goals in the Women’s Premier League this season and became the first Australian player to win the PFA Player of the Year award.

“It’s a great honor I think, whenever you vote by your teammates. I think it’s the highest honor as a player, so it’s a great feeling,” said Kerr, who played a key role in the Chelsea team that won the domestic double.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Lauren Hemp retained their titles for the Young Player of the Year award. Meanwhile, former England coach Roy Hodgson and Brighton & Hove Albion women’s team manager Hope Powell received awards for their contributions to the game.
