Mild tremors felt in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada; 3rd incident in 6 days | Bengaluru

Tuesday morning saw the most mild tremor in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka – the second in four days. The PTI said residents experienced about 3.5 seconds, about four seconds, on the Richter scale.

Residents of Kallugundi, Sampaje, Goonadka, Arantodu, Ivernadu, Dodikkana and Peraje were alarmed by the magnitude of the 2.3 magnitude tremor on Saturday morning. Many people ran out of houses as the earth trembled for about 45 seconds. Cracks appeared in some buildings.

The National Earthquake Center said the quake occurred at a depth of five km in Kodagu district. Sampaje, Surajya Taluk, Arantode, Peraje, Jalsur, Ubaradka, Thodikana and Mittur have been damaged.

It is unclear whether residents have heard any loud noises along with the tremors experienced on Saturday. A 3.4 magnitude earthquake rocked the Hassan district and neighboring Karnataka on Thursday.
