Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh of targeting a specific community, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Monday described the use of bulldozers to demolish property as “unfair and illegal” and urged courts to take the issue into account.
It also demanded the “immediate arrest” of Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal for their statements about the Prophet. While the BJP has suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma, Jindal has been expelled from the party.
The BSP chairman’s statement came a day after the state administration demolished the home of Muhammad Javid, a political activist and businessman, in Prayagraj. Javid, 54, was arrested on Saturday and police alleged he was one of the conspirators behind Friday’s violence in the city.
The government of Uttar Pradesh is targeting a specific community. Bulldozers and other malicious acts of aggression are used to create an atmosphere of fear and terror and to crush protests. “The court should take note of the wrong procedure under which the whole family was targeted through house demolitions,” Miawati said.

“The accelerated action of bulldozer demolition by the government by keeping rules and laws at stake, is not only affecting innocent families but even innocent homes are being demolished as well,” said the BSP chief.
Calling the statements of Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal “the root cause of the problem” that led to the incitement to violence, Mayawati said that because of their statements the honor of the country was dealt a blow. Why is the government making fun of the law by not taking action against them? Not sending the accused to prison is cruel and unfortunate favoritism. She emphasized that their immediate arrest was necessary.
