Kidnapping accused GRP constable enjoyed political patronage

Government Railway Police (GRP) constable Alok Tiwari, accused of kidnapping and torturing a city trader for ransom, enjoyed the patronage of a senior politician, sources in the police department said.

The politician’s gunner is also a partner in the business of selling second-hand four-wheelers, he said.

A case was registered on Monday for kidnapping and torturing a constable and his assistant for extorting money from Mohan Vishwakarma, a city businessman.

An FIR has been registered at the Chowk police station and the police said they will arrest Rahul near the trauma center of King George Medical University (KGMU) in Chowk on Tuesday.

It is said that Vishwakarma was abducted and taken to some place near Husadia Crossing in Gomti Nagar, where the trader managed to escape with the help of other traders who came to rescue him.

Sources in the police department said that the accused Rahul was involved in the sale and purchase of second-hand four-wheelers along with the constable and the victim woman.

Sources said that Gunner, a politician, was a partner in his business and nurtured the entire relationship with the help of a senior politician.

Sources said the constable was transferred to the GRP on the recommendation of a politician and was in close touch with him.
