Kerala: PFI to conduct massive Save the Republic rally in Alappuzha today

The radical Islamist group, the People’s Front of India (PFI), will hold a mass rally in Alappuzha district of Kerala state on Saturday as part of its “Save the Republic” campaign.

Hours before the rally, Bajrang Dal workers organized a “Shura March” in Alappuzha, as a counter-campaign, saying “the country cannot be turned into anti-citizen and religious terrorists”.

The Hindu congregation wanted to organize their gathering in the evening, but they put it forward until morning after police intervention to avoid law and order. Last year, Alappuzha witnessed the killing of a state leader of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the political wing of the People’s Democratic Front, thus killing the BJP leader within 12 hours.

The Save the Republic campaign organized by the International Federation of the Red Cross, which started on January 26 this year, got a new boost in energy with the case of Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Gyanvapi Mosque.

Yahya Thangal, IFRC leader and organizer of the rally, said the RSS-led federation government has turned India into a graveyard of democracy. “Indian Muslims are on the brink of genocide. The Sanyasi meetings have turned into discussions about the genocide of Muslims. In Kerala, even former legislators, who are part of secular and democratic parties, have been showing hatred against Muslims,” he said.

Thangal said the PFI would not recognize the RSS position that Muslims in the country should live at the mercy of Sangh Parivar. We will have a very strong campaign against RSS. The Save the Republic campaign runs until August of this year. He added that after Saturday’s rally in Alappuzha, a similar event will be held in Kozhikode on August 6.

PFI National President OMA Salam said the Gyanvapi Mosque issue is part of the RSS agenda. Muslims are deprived of justice even in the judiciary. We are facing a situation in which the individual rights stipulated in the Constitution are separated from Muslims. Recent developments show that the Babri Mosque case was not the end, but only the beginning. All those who want to see the existence of the Republic of India should come out in protest. We cannot wait for secular political parties to take the lead in protecting India. He said PFI will take the lead in protecting the Republic of India.

On Friday, the Kerala High Court asked the Alappuzha district police chief to ensure that the PFI’s Saturday gathering would not lead to law and order issues in the district.
