An official statement said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will stop 150 electric buses on Tuesday, adding that passengers will travel free of charge for three days. It added that Delhi would equal the national record for introducing the most buses at a time with the addition of 150 electric buses to its fleet.
Kejriwal had grounded two pioneering electric buses in January. Delhi residents will be able to travel free for three days – from May 24 to May 26 – on electric buses that run on Delhi roads.
These buses are smokeless, have CCTV cameras, GPS, 10 panic buttons, ramps for people with different abilities, etc. Three depots in Mundela Kalan, Rajghat and Rohini Sector-37 are fully electrified and ready to house these 150 new buses. It added that the remaining 150 buses are also expected to be introduced next month.
After the flag is hoisted, these buses will operate on major roads in Delhi, including Route 502 between Muri Gate and Mehrali Station and IP Depot -Connaught Place – Safdarjung – Southern Extension – Ashram – Gangpura – India Gate Road. The government has also urged people to ride its e-buses, take a selfie and post it with the hashtag #IrideEbus on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook handles. The first three entries will have a chance to win an iPad.
The Transportation Department said in an official communication on Monday, “All DTC operational officers and crew may be informed accordingly and passengers not insisting on purchasing tickets, during the mentioned 03-day period on all DTC’s pure electric buses.” A DTC official said that travel The free one is offered to encourage people to promote the e-bus.
