Karnataka will act on Maratha reservation as per demand: CM Bommai | Bengaluru

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai said action will be taken under the provisions of the Constitution after receiving a report from the Backward Classes Commission on the Maratha community’s demand for reservation.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Maratha Communities Development Corporation and Orientation Programme, the state government is responding to the community’s demand to be included under Category 2A instead of the current Category 3B. The state government is reviewing the proposal. Action will be taken in this regard after receiving the report from the Backward Classes Commission.

The Chief Minister said that his government is committed to provide social justice to various backward communities. The state government has decided to provide a grant of Rs10 crore to prepare a detailed project report for the development of various heritage monuments of Maratha greats.

Bommai said that the ideals of great saints like Ramdas, Tukaram and Eknath are eternally relevant and their identity will be preserved.

The Maratha community has a significant presence along the state border from Karwar to Bidar. Special programs have been formulated for the development of these border areas. Bommai said in a press release that a grant has been given in the budget for the comprehensive development of border village panchayats.

He said that the Maratha community has joined the mainstream of Karnataka.

The Maratha Development Corporation has devised many welfare programs for the community, from self-employment schemes to all-round development of women. He said that the state government has allocated Rs100 crore for these programs and promised more if already allocated. Used effectively.

The Chief Minister described Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as the eternal star of 5000 years of Indian history. Bommai said Shivaji Maharaja is credited with humbling the Mughal dynasty and establishing a strong Hindu empire, hence he has a special place in Indian history.

“The Maratha community has a great history. As the nation celebrates its ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Prime Minister Modi is leading the country with unity. It is our duty to work together to realize PM Modi’s mission of making India a world champion. Every community should contribute towards this. With this aim, former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa Bommai said that he had set up the Maratha Development Corporation.
