Karnataka: Car hits lorry in Yadgir district, 6 of a family dead

Six members of a family were killed in a road accident in Yadgir district of Karnataka state after the car they were traveling in collided with a truck Thursday night.

The incident occurred near Gurmitkal town when the family was returning from a visit to Dargah in Kodangal, Telangana. The police identified the dead as Muhammad Majar Hussain (79 years), Noor Jahan Begum (70 years), Muhammad Wajid Hussain (39 years), Hina Begum (30 years), Imran (22 years), and six-month-old Amija. Hina and Imran hail from Yadgir while the rest were residents of Hutti village in Lingsagur Taluk in Raichur District.

Three-year-old Fadel Hussain, son of Wajid who was injured in the accident, was taken to a hospital in Kalaburagi and his condition is said to be stable.

According to the police, a head-on collision occurred between a truck carrying pipes and the family’s car. Four passengers in the car died on the spot, while two succumbed to their injuries. The injured were taken to the hospital by a police emergency response vehicle.

Gurmetkal police registered a case and the truck driver fled.
