Karnal man gets life imprisonment for doctor’s murder

A district court on Friday sentenced a man to death for murdering a senior doctor and former president of the Indian Medical Association.

A district court on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment in the murder of a senior doctor and former president of the Indian Medical Association.

However, District and Sessions Judge Chandrashekhar acquitted the two accused for failing to prove their involvement in the case.

The court also imposed fines Pawan Kumar of RK Puram in Karnal was sentenced to Rs 25,000. According to a police inquiry, Pawan Kumar was an employee of Dr Gupta’s Amritadhara Hospital.

According to a court order, Pawan has been convicted of murder under sections 302 and 120b of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Arms Act.

The accused first receives the sentence given to him under section 25 of the Arms Act and then the offender is sentenced for other offenses.

The district authorities have said that they will appeal against the acquittal in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and that the main culprit is Pawan to be sentenced to death instead of life imprisonment.

The court also directed the accused to pay compensation 1 lakh to the family of the deceased

According to a police investigation, on July 6, 2019, Dr Gupta shot himself with his driver on his way from the old hospital of Chora Bazar to his new hospital in ITI Chowk.
