“Unstoppable – Karke Dikhaungi”, a two-stage scholarship program for female athletes and coaches, will provide annual financial grants of an average of Rs 5-10 lakh for athletes, and around Rs 5 lakh for coaches.
Besides supporting competition, travel, training, equipment, coaching and sports science requirements, the program will work to increase equality and inclusion in Indian sport by creating new champions and role models in society.
The program invites applications from deserving state and national athletes across sports disciplines – Olympic, Paralympic, Winter Games and motorsports. It aims to support a diverse group of athletes to help them achieve their athletic potential, it was reported at its launch Tuesday.
Applications are open for a month from May 24 to June 24, 2022. The selected athletes will be called for internal assessments and another shortlist for the following stages. This may include feedback from coaches and experts, interview rounds, and due diligence. The athlete selection process will take approximately 100 days.
Finally, 20 athletes will be awarded scholarships and comprehensive support for their sporting journeys and crucial turning points in their careers. In the third round of the process, the top 100 shortlisted athletes will have access to educational workshops on many relevant topics throughout the year.
In the second phase of the program, applications will be open for coaches for the annual scholarships. Similar to the athletes, they will be given financial and non-financial support for their growth and development.
“As a socially responsible company, we want to do our part in nurturing sports talent in the country,” said Ashima Bhatt, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Business Finance and Infrastructure, HDFC Bank.
Sports play a crucial role in the overall development of our nation’s youth. In the absence of adequate resources and infrastructure to support these talented athletes, many of them are forced to drop out early in their journey.
“This program is designed to eliminate some of these gaps so that our athletes and coaches can achieve excellence in their disciplines. It is our endeavor to discover talent and help them achieve greatness both nationally and internationally,” she added.
“Over the decades, there have been many special achievements created by female champions of the sport, who have written history and helped change stereotypes, break down barriers and inspire communities through sport,” said Debethy Poppaiah, CEO of the GoSports Foundation.
“At GoSports, we have been fortunate to be a part of so many of these journeys over the past 13 years, through Bhavani Devi, Deepa Karmakar, Avani Lekhara and so many other champions. We are so excited to have HDFC Bank on board to launch a unique program for girls and women in The field of sports, where we focus on developing them in general in their sports journeys. We are very happy to start this program and continue to change the script.”
