Indian Men’s Compound Team Win Gold at Archery World Cup

The Indian men’s composite shooting team came back on Saturday from behind to beat France by two points in an intense finish to win the gold medal in back-to-back stages of the World Cup Finals.

In a repeat of the first stage final, the fourth-seeded men’s team, which includes Abhishek Verma, Aman Saini and Rajat Chauhan, found itself well behind its sixth-seeded rival at the top two ends.

But in the end, the trio achieved a 232-230 victory over their French counterparts Adrien Gontier, Jean-Philippe Bolch and Quentin Barrier to win the World Cup gold in the second stage.

In the last World Cup final in Antalya in April, the same Indian trio beat France by one point.

Indian superstar, Archer Verma, went on to win the second medal when he, along with Avnet Kaur, beat top-ranked Turkish top seed American Hani and Ace Pera Sozer 156-155 to win the bronze medal in the mixed teams event.

For Cor, this was her second bronze after she won the team bronze in the women’s event earlier.

Starting at 39, the sixth seed slipped by two points at the second end (77-79) with her fourth seeded opponent firing four 10s including three Xs (closer to center).

Verma and Kaur cut the difference to one point at the third end with a 39/40 shot and finished in style with a perfect fourth finish – four 10s including one X.
