This was the best performance ever for Indian weightlifters on the opening day of the tournament.
“It is encouraging to note that Indian weightlifters had earlier won only three medals in all editions of the World Junior Weightlifting Championships Seikum Mirabai Chanu (bronze), Gili Dallabehira (bronze) and Akinta Sheoli (silver).
“While on the opening day of the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships (men and women), Indian weightlifters won 3 medals 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. “More medals are expected in the coming days,” Indian Weightlifting Federation President Sahdev Yadav said in a statement. .
“I would like to congratulate all the weightlifters on a good showing during the 2022 IWF World Weightlifting Championships in Heraklion and commend the efforts of the Indian coaches who have trained the athletes in such a short amount of time in the national camps,” he added.
