India sees single-day rise of 2,323 Covid-19 cases; active cases at 14,996

The number of COVID-19 cases in India rose to 4,313,445 on Saturday with 2,323 new infections, while the number of active cases fell to 14,996, according to data from the Federal Ministry of Health.

The death toll rose to 524,348 with 25 deaths, data updated at 8 a.m. said.

Active cases make up 0.03 percent of all infections. The ministry said the national recovery rate from COVID-19 was 98.75 percent.

A decrease of 48 cases was recorded in the number of active COVID-19 cases within 24 hours.

The ministry said that the daily positivity rate was 0.47 percent, and the weekly positivity rate was 0.51 percent.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease has risen to 4,25,94,801. It said the case fatality rate was 1.22 percent.

The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination campaign has exceeded Rs 192.12 crore.

The death toll of COVID-19 in India crossed the mark of 20 lakh on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It exceeded 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11. , crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and crossed the 1 crore mark on December 19.

India passed the grim stage of Rs 2 crore on May 4 and Rs 3 crore on June 23.

Among the 25 new fatalities, 23 were from Kerala and one each from Uttar Pradesh and Mizoram.

The Ministry of Health stressed that more than 70 percent of deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

“Our numbers are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that the nationwide distribution of numbers is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
