India recorded 2,259 new coronavirus infections bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 4,313,822, while active cases fell to 15,044, according to the updated Federal Health Ministry data on Friday. The death toll rose to 524,323 with 20 new deaths, data updated at 8 a.m. said.
The ministry said that active cases constitute 0.03 percent of the total infections, while the national recovery rate from COVID-19 has reached 98.75 percent. A decrease of 375 cases was recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload within 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was 0.50 percent, and the weekly positivity rate was 0.53 percent, according to the Ministry of Health.
The number of people recovering from the disease rose to 4,25,92,455, while the death rate reached 1.22%. The cumulative doses taken in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign have exceeded Rs 191.96 crore.
The death toll of COVID-19 in India crossed the mark of 20 lakh on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It exceeded 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11. , crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and crossed the one crore mark on December 19. The country passed the grim milestone of Rs two crore on May 4 and Rs three crore on June 23 last year.
