India captain Rishabh Pant admitted his team was 10-15 short runs ahead of South Africa in the second T20I at Parapati Stadium, Cuttack. On a hard hitting surface, bowlers in South Africa made a collective bid to chain India to below par 148/6 in 20 overs.
At one point, even 148 seemed tough for India, but Dinesh Karthik provided the finishing touch to give bowlers something to fight for.

Proteas chased the target with ten balls to spare as Pant said the bowlers were not up to the mark in the second half of the South African innings.
“I think hitting, we were 10-15 short runs. Bhuvi and all the other fast bowlers were throwing very well. We were short in the second half and things didn’t go our way,” Pant said in his post-match presentation.
Bovneshwar Kumar brought his A game to the table in powerplay. Reeza Hendricks only eliminated 4 in the first on himself while defending a 149-under goal. While, in the second of his spell, Buffeneshwar disposed of explosives Dwayne Pretorius. Pant backed him to rule in third place and the veteran did not disappoint his captain. In the final finish of the powerplay, Bhuvneshwar made Rassie van der Dussen’s castle for only 1.
Summary of the second match between India and South Africa in T20I
Bhuvneshwar was the choice of bowlers for India with outstanding personalities of 4/13. While Harshall and Chahal share a small portal each.
However, the spinners failed to press Proteas’ rackets in the middle which kept the match out of India’s reach.
“They (Klasen and Pafuma) hit really well. The bowlers started really well, but after 10-11 repetitions we didn’t play well and that’s where the game changed,” Bant added.
The Indian captain also talked about the spinners using only five sums as he said they tried to emulate the strategy of the Proteas who also used only four sums of spinners.
“We thought we would do similar things (like the South African bowlers). The spinners should get into the game better. “In the last three games, we’re going to try to win,” he added.
