“Number expansion is Dubai, UAE. It is being investigated whether this number is really from Dubai. We spoke to the Lucknow police about the call to Aparna Yadav. Yes, both calls were made from the same number, a police officer said.

“We are investigating whether a proxy server was used to make the call. Uttar Pradesh police are also investigating the case,” the official added.

Pragya Thakur, a saffron party representative from the Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency, filed a complaint with the TT Nagar police station on Saturday in connection with the threatening call. He said in his complaint that the caller had threatened to kill her on Friday night in support of Nupur Sharma, now a former BJP spokesman who was suspended from the party for his controversial statements.

On the basis of the complaint of MPs, the police registered a case under Section 506 (Criminal Threat) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 507 (Criminal Threat through Anonymous Communication).

Meanwhile, Aparna Yadav, who is the niece of Mulayam Singh Yadav, belonging to the BJP and the Socialist Party (SP), was threatened in June by a WhatsApp call.
