‘I’m sure the headline can be much better than this’: Dinesh Karthik slams ECB | Cricket

Team India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant produced a brilliant performance with the bat on Day 1 of the rescheduled fifth and final Test of the series against England. Pant scored a brilliant 146 in the first innings, bailing India out of trouble after a flurry of wickets in the opening two sessions. The visitors were reeling at 98/5 when Pant put on a 222-run sixth-wicket partnership with Ravindra Jadeja. The wicketkeeper-batsman was finally dismissed by Joe Root in the final session of the day.

India finished the first day on a strong score of 338/7, with Jadeja unbeaten on 83 runs. Interestingly, the England and Wales Cricket Board headlined on their official website, “Joe Root sacks powerful Pant”. And India’s senior wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik expressed his opinion on his official Twitter account.

“After such an engrossing, exciting day’s play, I’m sure the title is better and more appropriate than this @ECB_cricket. @RishabhPant17 That knock of the land was the standard of Test cricket played by both teams as good as it gets and you call it a day,” Karthik wrote.

Hanuma Vihari (20) had lost India’s third wicket of the innings when Pant arrived at the crease. However, despite overcast conditions and James Anderson in lethal form, Pant was undeterred and continued with his naturally aggressive approach; He brought up his half-century in the 43rd over of the innings.

Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bowl in Birmingham. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah is leading the Indian team in the absence of full-time captain Rohit Sharma, who was ruled out after testing positive for Covid-19. In Rohit’s absence, Cheteshwar Pujara opened the first innings alongside Shubman Gill.

India lead 2-1 in the five-Test series.
