‘I Have Been Gaslit for Who I Am, Had A Director Slag Me in Public’

Abhay Deol is one of those actors who has been upfront and upfront about what he’s thinking. The actor has often been praised for his choice of films and his performance in each one of them. Now, in an interview to promote his upcoming project Jungle Cry which will be releasing Lionsgate Play, the actor has opened up about being lit up for who he is.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the actor revealed that he was often ignorant of comparisons in Bollywood. But this ignorance also caused him misery. He revealed, “I know I’ve been lit up for who I am. You invoke a lot of aggression because you do something and you run it. And a lot of people want to be able to do it and they can’t. So they plot against you. Sometimes, that ignorance can show up.” As arrogance I know it’s happened many times.”

He added, “When you wear your heart on your sleeve, you are manipulated and taken advantage of. I’ve had a manager cheat on me in public and spread lies about me. Who comes with the earth. You have to be prepared because he’s not always happy.”

Describing himself as inappropriate, he said, “I can work a lot harder to fit in. It’s too much work. I have to put those hours into acting. That in and of itself makes me more than inappropriate. Yes, it’s reckless. I think we all know.” There are only too many groups and you kind of find yourself in one group. It’s a tribal mentality in that sense. You find your tribe and you are supported by them and you fit in. And I didn’t try because I didn’t know if I got along with anyone.”

Abhay Deol has been seen in projects like JL50 and 1962: War in the Hills.
