Honorary doctorate for filmmaker Shankar

Director Shankar, a prolific Tamil filmmaker known for his larger-than-life films such as Anyan, India and Interan, is set to receive an honorary doctorate from the famous Phils University in Chennai. Recently, the university honored Sembo with a Ph.D.

Notably, this is Shankar’s second honorary doctorate. He received the same honor from MGR University in 2007 with actor Vijay.

Shankar, who made his debut with a gentleman in 1993, quickly became an accomplished filmmaker in Tamil cinema. His films are known for their lavish budgets, massive scenes, and anti-corruption. Most of these films have a guard who fights against order and people to restore order in society.

Almost all of his films have been commercial successes. He has worked with many notable heroes of Kollywood including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay and Vikram. His films have won National Awards, Filmfare Awards, and State Awards.

His last film was Rajinikanth 2.0, which is a sequel to Enthiran. Currently, Shankar is working on a massive project in Telugu with Ram Charan, tentatively called RC15. His upcoming Tamil project, Indian 2, starring Kamal Hassan, has been discontinued after a group mishap that killed two crew members. Kamal said in a recent event that the film will return soon.

Meanwhile, Shankar is attending the audio launch of his upcoming disastrous movie, Veruman. The film marks the appearance of Shankar’s daughter, Aditi Shankar. The Big Sound is launching in Madurai today. The film, directed by Mathiah, is a rural drama set to be released on August 12.
