With the monsoon trough moving north, widespread and heavy rainfall is expected over northwest India and the Himalayan foothills in the next 4 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.

The cyclonic circulation is at low tropical level over West Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas.

Monsoon trough is close to normal and is likely to move further northwards in next 2-3 days.

An east-west shear zone runs across northern peninsular India.

A coastal trough flows from south Gujarat coast to Karnataka coast.

Under the influence of the above systems, isolated heavy rain and widespread light to moderate rain with thunder or lightning is likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh from July 20. 24.
