‘He has more shots than any other Indian’: Shastri on star batter for T20 WC | Cricket

Hardik Pandya did a commendable job with IPL freshman Gujarat Titans who won the crown in their first season. KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson also excelled as captains. While Rahul will lead the new addition to the Lucknow Super Giants in the playoffs, Rajasthan will be runner-up by Samson. The success of Indian players as captain is good for the national team but Coach Rahul Dravid will have to work hard to find the perfect team composition for this year’s T20 World Cup. Samson, who had an uneven spell with India, scored 458 while leading the Royals in the just concluded IPL edition. Former India head coach Ravishastri believes that Samson is not part of the five-match T20 assignment against South Africa but has more shots on his arm than any other Indian player playing under Australian conditions.

“(Short ball talk) It will come into play in these 20 games. There are now opportunities between Tripathi, Samson and Iyer. But looking at Australia, there are bounce, pace, cut, pull and Samson staying there. For those conditions, he has more shots than any Indian, to be honest, ”Shastri said ESPNcricinfo.

Shastri spoke about the star players including Virat Kohli playing the T20 Shopies event in Australia. Kohli and Rohit Sharma have reduced the IPL season with their teams but have not seen Shastri drop out of the national team.

“Because of the proximity to the World Cup, I don’t think they (Rohit, Kohli, Pant, Bumrah) will play all 30 of these matches.

Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori echoed Shastri’s words, saying that experienced names have proven themselves numerous times on the international stage.

“Such players have a problem track record to keep you running hard. I think they’ve proven themselves to be in big situations, having played for India many times. You want them on your World Cup squad. ”He explained.
