Haryana ties up with Brazil to improve desi cow breed

Haryana Agriculture Minister JP Dalal said on Tuesday that the Haryana government, in cooperation with Brazil, will establish a Center of Excellence for Animal Breed Improvement in Hisar. He added that the state will also enter into a memorandum of understanding with a Canada-based company to establish a center to increase protein content in animal feed.

Dalal said that in 1911, the King of Bhavnagar donated Gir cows to Brazil. The minister said that Brazil has worked to improve the Indian breed and has developed a new breed of cows – the Gerlando – which gives an average of 15 liters of milk. Along the same lines, Dalal said, the Daisy, Haryana and Sahiwal cow breeds should also be genetically improved.
