Adding positive habits like meditation, spending time in nature, eating a healthy diet, yoga and breathing exercises can give your mental health a much-needed boost.

“Our habits shape not only our day but also our mind, body and spirit. In our stressful and chaotic lifestyle, all we need is a little solace. A little break to wipe away all the frown lines on our foreheads and feel refreshed and reconnected. And the perfect balance between mind, body and spirit. To achieve, all we need to do is follow some healthy habits,” says Sheenam K Malhotra, Dietitian, Clinical Nutritionist and Wellness Consultant.

Here are 5 simple daily habits to achieve a healthy mind, body and spirit as suggested by Malhotra.

1. The power of meditation

Meditation is a great way to heal all your wounds and get rid of unnecessary stress and anxiety. It calms your mind, relaxes your muscles and nerves and your mind reaches a level of peace. Regular meditation can bring significant improvement in mental health and once our mind is calm, your body also becomes disease free. You can meditate for 10-15 minutes in the morning or before going to bed. Choose a relaxing spot in your home and allow your body to reconnect to your soul.

2. Spend time with nature

Your body needs a break from laptop screens and four walls. Spending a few minutes with nature can help rejuvenate your body and mind. Fresh air is a great stimulant for your brain and helps declutter your mind. Take some time before or after work and go for a run or brisk walk in a park or somewhere green. Also, opt for vacations that include lots of outdoor activities like hiking, boating, etc.

3. Follow a healthy diet

Our diet plays a very important role in our overall mental and physical health. When we engage in wholesome, healthy, mindful eating our bodies and minds respond more effectively and connect on a deeper level. Try to include a balanced diet in your daily routine that will give you essential nutrients and satisfy your cravings. Fresh, leafy vegetables, fruits, salads, plenty of juices are some healthy foods to include. Avoid sugary, fried foods as much as possible and try to replace them with healthy and tasty foods. Also, while eating, try to keep all your gadgets away and just enjoy your food. This allows your body to get all the goodness from the food and your mind and soul are also satisfied.

4. Mind breathing

Deep breathing is powerful enough to change your negative thought patterns. In moments of anxiety, take a deep breath and breathe in the goodness of nature. Your nerves are rejuvenated and you reach a sense of calmness where all negative thoughts are banished from your mind.

5. Sleep like a baby

You need a solid night of sleep to fuel your mind, body and spirit. Sleep releases growth hormones in our body, which are essential for your health. Moreover, adequate sleep will allow your body to function more efficiently the next day and you will be fully recharged. Your body and mind are better synchronized when you have enough sleep.
