Gulshan Devaiah defends star-kids amid The Archies nepotism debate, says ‘a few’ are using it to settle personal scores

Nepotism of relatives also discussed about Zoya Akhtar arc intensifiesActor Gulshan Devayah complimented the topic, saying that the entire discussion was just an excuse for a select few to settle their personal scores. His tweet comes a few days after director Zoya Akhtar shared a post teaser from her next movie, It stars Suhana Khan, daughter of Shah Rukh Khan, grandson of Amitabh Bachchan, Agastya Nanda, and daughter of Sridevi Khushi Kapoor.

Gulshan wrote, “Opinion: The debate over nepotism harnesses the anxiety and contempt felt by many inside and outside the Indian entertainment industry to serve the interests of the few who use it to settle their personal accounts. This is a difficult and very unfair business but nepotism is not a big deal.” He added, “As an actor (for example) anxiety and insecurity come from the need for opportunities and there are privileged people who enjoy them a little easier but this is a kind of delusion that is amplified/colored by personal opinions and peer-based opinions on individual and group disappointments.”

He further wrote, “If a producer wants to take advantage of the public interest of a child star, it is their right to do so. It is not a crime. This method has its fair share of failures. Film production is a private business. It is not based on merit for example: education and sports.” He wrote in another tweet: “This is the nature of this job. It’s hard.. so hard so forget being rich and famous but being an actor who works regularly is very desirable. People have to find their way through this very self-judgmental work. Judgments (the audience also judges).”

The controversy over nepotism has long dogged the film industry, but was pushed to a higher level after Kangana Ranaut accused Karan Johar of being a “flag-bearer of nepotism” on Koffee with Karan. It has been reignited after The Archies teaser was released on Saturday. In the movie, Suhana is supposed to play Veronica Lodge, while Khushi will play a version of Betty Cooper. The movie is set in India in the year 1960 and is said to be a musical.
