Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar of India found himself on the wrong side of social media uproar after making unnecessary comments on Rajasthan Royals cricketer Shimran Hettmeyer and his wife. Gavaskar has been bombarded by fans on Twitter for his comments about the commentary during the Rajasthan Royals IPL 2022 match against Chennai Super Kings at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Friday.
Returning to the Royals XI, Heitmeyer came to bat when RR lost their fifth wicket and was in a tricky situation in their 151-run chase against CSK. Gavaskar commented then: “Will Hettmeyer’s wife Hettmeyer Hettmeyer now deliver to the Royals?”
Hettmeyer left the RR bubble and traveled to Guyana, where she was pregnant with their first child. Hettmeyer was blessed with a baby on May 10th.
After spending a few days with his wife and newborn, the aggressive left-hander returned to India and joined the Royals. The Royals were selected as soon as they were available for selection in their major final match against CSK.
Therefore, Gavaskar’s particular comment was not liked by cricket fans on Twitter.
Here’s how Twitter responded to Gavaskar’s comment about Shimran Hettmeyer and his wife during the commentary.
As for the match, Ravichandran Ashwin stole the show from CSK’s Moin Ali by scoring 40 off 23 balls to win the match and topped the Rajasthan Royals’ top two spot and took two shots to reach the final.
Ashwin, who was promoted to middle order, gave Rajasthan a five-wicket win by hitting two fours and three sixes, while skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and chased Chennai’s 150-6 after first picking up the bat.
India’s off-spinner Ashwin also took 1-28 and masked Ali’s all-round performance in England, giving his team a perfect start with 93 and 1-21 in 57 balls in their four overs.
